Near Rennes: the burglar falls asleep in the bed, the police wake him up

This Wednesday morning, Muriel, 50 years old, and Gaël, 52 years old, are still in shock. During the night of Saturday June 22 to Sunday June 23, while they were away for a weekend in Poitiers, their house in Montfort-sur-Meu was burglarized. Observing that a window was abnormally open, it was the couple’s neighbors who raised the alarm.

The gendarmerie arrived a little before 9:30 a.m. There, the police noticed that the house was upside down. It had been extensively searched. More surprisingly, the perpetrator was still asleep in the couple’s daughter’s bed. At the foot of the bed, ready for departure, a bag with all his loot: tablets, computer, jewelry, but also the spare keys to the car left behind. A sudden exhaustion certainly due to the bottle of Cognac that this 28-year-old Moroccan had completely downed when discovering the bar.

A Whiskey first?

“Not only was our house completely turned over, emptied, but it was also ransacked. He damaged furniture while rummaging like a brute, Muriel laments. He broke the bottom of the drawers of our bathroom cabinet thinking that we might have hidden valuables inside. Knowing that he slept in my 12 year old daughter’s bed is extremely traumatic. She doesn’t want to sleep in her room anymore. I disinfected all the door handles and furniture. I donated the clothes he touched to an Emmaus recycler. I totally threw out his bed! It’s unbearable to imagine that. It’s going to take time for us to get back up.”

On Tuesday, June 25, the Rennes judicial court sentenced the young man to six months in prison. As a repeat offender, he was incarcerated. The Agen court had already sentenced him in September 2021 for similar acts. In addition, the burglar will be summoned later by the Rennes court for another offense.

Near the house of Gaël and Muriel, rue du Général-De-Gaulle still in Montfort-sur-Meu, the young man is suspected of having started his evening by burglarizing another house. Here again everything was turned around and trashed. This time, he had set his sights on a bottle of… whiskey.
