“He arrived very stressed”: where did this enormous black pig which recently wandered around Grasse come from?

An improbable scene in a residence in Plan-de-Grasse, where residents were surprised to discover an enormous pig wandering around the condominium on Friday June 28!

Quickly alerted, firefighters and municipal police then launched an operation to intercept the behemoth.

“I was contacted to take him in. I had already taken in a sow and her young found in the Saint-Mathieu district in 2022.”says Allison, president of the association Poils de tendresse, based in Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée.

Arrived at the shelter stressed and exhausted

Named Georges, the pig was transported by firefighters to the shelter.

“He arrived very stressed. He was very thirsty and then he went to bed and didn’t move until the next day. Pigs have heart problems, he must have been exhausted…” In a few hours, the new arrival seems to have already found his feet.

“He seems nicesmiles Allison, a specialist educator who juggles her job and her dedication to the animal cause. I think he belonged to someone who took good care of him. He lets you pet him. I find him a little thin, even though he must weigh at least 120 kg!”

Its owner died several months ago?

But where does this Gascon or Vietnamese pig come from – We do not really know” – who seems quite old? “I was told that its owner died last February. A man living in Plan-de-Grasse, who owned a small farm. “But if it’s true, what did George do for four months? How did he eat, how did he survive, why didn’t anyone see him before?”

A mystery that the municipal police officers of the hamlet brigade are trying to elucidate, thanks to a neighborhood investigation.
The municipality would indeed like to find an owner, or a person who has taken care of it since… Because, otherwise, it will be up to the City to pay the security and food costs.

In the meantime, Georges is recovering in the countryside, under the watchful eye of his savior. “I’m preparing to keep him. Because you have to be realistic, I doubt we’ll find someone to adopt him. Because of his size, but also because he’s difficult to transport! If he stays in shelter, I will have to install specific barriers, because there is a swine fever alert in the department.”
