Prepared for several weeks, the decision is now official. The small ultra-right group Les Remparts, based in Lyon, was dissolved by the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, June 26, announced government spokesperson Prisca Thévenot at midday. The presidential decree, which Le Figaro was able to consult, is based on facts of provocation to hatred or violence because of origin, sex or ethnicity, provided for in article L212-1 of the internal security code.

The decision also concerns the nested entities of La Traboule and L’Agogée, respectively “identity bar” and boxing gym, located at the same address as Les Remparts, in Old Lyon. A “grouping of facts”, according to the decree presented by Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, which is in line with Génération Identitaire (GI), dissolved three years ago and which operated the same premises of the rise of Change. The text in fact mentions the affiliation between these structures, in particular transfers made by GI to La Traboule “in order to allow it to continue to play its logistical role with the emerging group “Les Remparts””.

The mayor of Lyon applauds, The Remparts contest

“We will obviously contest this decision before the Council of State”, “we are not going to let ourselves face this arbitrary decision”, Antoine Durand, spokesperson for the Remparts, told AFP. For his part, the mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet (EELV), welcomed this dissolution, recalling the various letters addressed to the tenant of Beauvau for two years on this subject, but also the involvement of local deputies, in particular Thomas Rudigoz (Renaissance ), who also welcomed this outcome.

“By this decision, the government has finally shown responsibility, it was urgent to act for the safety of Lyonnaises and Lyonnaiscommented Grégory Doucet in a press release. This dissolution is a further step to fight against the violence of the extreme right. Our duty is to promote the humanism so dear to our city and our country». “We had to obtain this dissolution at all costs,” Thomas Rudigoz, the outgoing deputy of the presidential majority, told AFP, deploring “an indoctrination of many young people”.

An Islamist association dissolved

The dissolution decree recalls the positions taken by the small group and its members on social networks “in order to fuel hatred of foreigners”. Members, some of whom appear with a jacket bearing the inscription «White Division» or broadcast “a xenophobic and Islamophobic ideology, promoting hatred and violence against people who are supposedly immigrants or Muslims.”

The text underlines the exploitation of several news items, such as the death of Thomas Perotto in Crépol, on the occasion of which “the Les Remparts group” broadcasts a speech establishing an equal sign between immigration and violence, even terrorism”. And to recall the calls for self-defense and punitive expeditions, then the passage to action through violent actions, in Romans-sur-Isère, or in Vieux-Lyon last November.

In accordance with the announced wishes of Gérald Darmanin, the GUD (Groupe union defense), an ultra-right student union created in the 1970s and recently reactivated, was also dissolved. An Islamist association, Jonas Paris, was also dissolved on Wednesday. This decision comes during the last Council of Ministers before the holding of early legislative elections which should lead to the formation of a new government.
