The wind blew strongly in Deux-Sèvres, Thursday November 21, 2024, with gusts reaching 118 km/h. These bad weather caused damage throughout the department. In the town center of the village of Rom, the roof of a house was badly damaged.

A relocated family

This rental house, belonging to the municipality, saw part of its roof taken away and turned over. The family who resided there found themselves devastated. Municipal services intervened very quickly to assess the damage.

Repair work is planned from Friday. Immediately, Mayor Gilles Pichon offered the affected occupants temporary rehousing in an apartment belonging to the municipality.

Gym closed in Chauray

In Chauray, the wind caused more slight damage to the Pied-Griffier sports hall. A cladding plate came off, but no damage was reported in the room. The Chauray Basket club, however, had to cancel its training sessions scheduled for Thursday.

In the south of Deux-Sèvres, the gendarmerie recorded several falling trees and plants on the roads, notably in Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon, Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan, Augé, Coulonges-sur-l'Autize, but also in Faye-sur-Ardin or Chizé. A tree about ten meters high even fell on a road in Reffannes.

Lying truck

Although no casualties were reported in the entire area, the driver of a refrigerated van saw his vehicle lie on its side in a field, after leaving the road around 3:30 p.m., while he was driving near the town of Fors. No injuries, but a big scare nonetheless.

118 km/h in Scillé, 106 in

A gust reaching 118 km/ha was recorded around 3 p.m., Thursday, November 21 at the Scillé station, to the west of the department, indicates Emmanuel Moreau, meteorologist from Niort. In Thénezay, a gust of 107 km/h was measured. In Niort as well as in Melle, values ​​of 106 km/h were reached several times in the morning and afternoon.

“First serious gust of wind” At the end of the year, this episode was not accompanied by very heavy rainfall: around 15 to 20 mm.

“On the other hand, what is notable is the rise in temperatures in the morning in Niortaisunderlines Emmanuel Moreau. Between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., we went from 4 to 14°. This will drop quickly again in the evening as the depression evacuates. »
