It was to give a class presentation on the job of President of the Republic that Gaëlle, 10 years old, sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron. In return, this resident of the village of Hallines, in Pas-de-, received an invitation to the Élysée Christmas tree. A beautiful story that she tells us.

« I wanted to give a presentation at school on the job of President of the Republic. I had questions so I asked my mom if she could help me do some research and she was the one who told me I could write a letter directly to President » says Gaëlle.

As a result, she will not go to school on December 11, since she has a very surprising excuse: a special invitation from the President of the Republic!

It is thanks to her letter that the young girl, at the age of 10, sent Emmanuel Macron during the All Saints' Day holidays. She starts a first version, then gives up and then starts again. “ In the letter I introduced myself and asked questions » explains Gaëlle, very confident during our interview.

She continues “ for example, I wanted to know if it is difficult to be President, if he travels a lot or if he receives a lot of letters and at what age one can be President. »

If Gaëlle finds the courage to write this letter, it is because the idea has been in her head for a long time. “ Since I was 6 years old, I have been interested in the President of the Republic. I wonder why in France there are no female Presidents yet. As I saw that there were women who were running, but who were not elected, I said to myself, that's weird. »

So, she takes advantage of it, in her letter, she talks about it to the President. “ I asked him if he thought a girl could become president? Because I actually would like it. »

Just a few days later, when he came home from school, his mother greeted him with a nice surprise. “ I was tired when I came back from school and mom said to me: you received this email from the president with an invitation. As I thought he would answer my questions, I first cried and then I was happy. »

Pernette, his mother, continues the story: “ It was an email that arrived from the Élysée services, we were all surprised even if I know that you can write to the President of the Republic when you receive an email, it's always extraordinary. »

Indeed, several years ago, Gaëlle's grandmother also wrote to the President of the Republic concerning the lack of resources to accommodate deaf children in schools.

« It was a subject that concerned my brother, I was a child” continues Pernette, “that's how I knew that all citizens can write and that there is always a response to letters sent. »

« It wasn't planned » smiled Pernette, « from a presentation, we move on to a trip to . We have family who will welcome you, but for the snack at the Élysée, only children are invited. We will wait for him while visiting the place.»

Invited to the Élysée! and yes, Gaëlle will be among the 500 other children present at the Christmas Tree, for a snack and a show, organized every year since 1889, by the President of the Republic. The presidential couple is still present there.

« I don’t know if I’m going to get answers to my questions for my presentation” continues Gaëlle. “I don’t even know if I’m going to speak to the President of the Republic. I would like to say hello to him, I would like that. It's a unique opportunity. »

Gaëlle hopes to see Emmanuel Macron, perhaps she will have the opportunity to talk to him about her ideas, because if one day she becomes, as she imagines, President of the Republic, she has some ideas: ” we need housing for the homeless and everyone can have something to eat, therefore distributing more food to those who need it… »

A great program for Christmas…
