Blagnac. New one-way change from Monday in the city center

The one-way configuration of boulevards and streets in the city center will undergo a new configuration, starting next Monday. During a public meeting held at the Espace des Caouecs last Monday, the mayor, Joseph Carles, presented a new upcoming modification of the system, implemented on May 6, and modified for the first time on June 10.

“The direction of traffic on Boulevard Firmin Pons will be reversed, thus allowing traffic from Les Ramiers to go back towards Boulevard Jean-Rivet, specifies the mayor. But at the same time, the one-way direction will be maintained, also in the direction going up, in the rue du Vieux Blagnac”.

With an immediate consequence that the fifty or so participants at the meeting, mainly local residents, noted: “But how will we get to Les Ramiers?” The answer is associated with the traffic directions of the city centre roads. “By taking Rue Sarrazinière, then, by choice, Côte de l’Abbé-Cazeneuve or Rue Bacquié-Fonade since the Descent of Les Ramiers remains two-way,” says Joseph Carles.

Combining safety and traffic flow

The exchanges and questions followed one another, including contesting the final objective, recalled by the mayor and the other elected officials alongside him: “The initial one-way design of the two boulevards aimed to combine security, living environment and fluidity of The traffic shift in the rue du Vieux Blagnac and the associated difficulties led us to make this road one-way, alerted as we were by the residents. leads to a new experiment, as with the previous stages, this is subject to daily counting of vehicles via cameras dedicated to this sole function.

There is no doubt that the public meeting planned from the start for September 30 will bring its share of lessons and also misunderstandings. The positions were in fact often contradictory. But the mayor was optimistic: “We have heard the complaints and we have just made a second correction. We must accept the right to make mistakes, but the city center does not belong only to the inhabitants but to everyone the world,” he insisted.
