At the invitation of the French authorities, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of Moroccan security, made a working visit to France. Objective: strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Rabat and Paris are converging towards strengthening their bilateral security cooperation. Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco, undertook a working visit to France at the official invitation of his French counterparts. This visit, which took place from June 26 to 28, made it possible to intensify exchanges and collaborations in the field of security.

During his stay, Mr. Hammouchi held a series of strategic meetings with key French security officials, including Ms. Celine Berthon, Director General of Internal Security (DGSI) and Mr. Nicolas Lerner, Director General of External Security (DGSE). Discussions focused primarily on strategies to combat terrorism and organized crime, as well as improving coordination and information-sharing mechanisms.

The press release from the DGSN-DGST Pole indicates that these meetings also focused on the development of advanced proactive cooperation mechanisms, particularly with a view to optimally securing the next Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. During these discussions, Mr. Hammouchi was accompanied by a notable delegation representing the DGST, emphasizing the importance of this visit for Morocco’s security strategy.

In addition, Mr. Hammouchi met with the Director General of the National Police (DGPN), Frédéric Veaux. This meeting provided an opportunity to deepen discussions on strengthening risk prevention tools and integrating efforts into joint security operations.

Recognition of the quality of this cooperation resulted in an honorary distinction: Mr. Hammouchi was decorated with the Gold Medal of Honor from the French National Police, a mark of recognition of his efforts to strengthen security relations between Morocco and France.

The talks also addressed critical issues such as the fight against drug and psychotropic drug trafficking networks, irregular immigration, and human trafficking. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to improving operational cooperation mechanisms, necessary for concerted action against transnational threats.

This visit illustrates the vital importance of security cooperation between France and Morocco, which face common challenges in an increasingly complex global security landscape. This week’s exchanges are part of an international security dynamic aimed at countering terrorist and criminal threats, thus consolidating an essential partnership for regional and international stability.
