Let’s go ! The new edition of Rock in Évreux started this Friday, June 28, 2024. In a tighter format this year (a single stage, eleven groups and three DJs on the bill), the festival has, according to its artistic director, found its audience.

It was the Normans from Captain Sparks & Royal Company who opened the ball at 6 p.m. in front of around twenty people, mostly volunteers. The fault lies in opening the doors too late. The courageous leader of the group preferred to laugh about it and thanked the public for this “modest but warm welcome”.

After Seb Katana’s first interlude, Dajak took the stage at 7:15 p.m. in front of a slightly larger, but still modest, audience.

The Matmatah Kings

Around 8:30 p.m., the crowd began to grow. And to fill with gwenn ha du, the Breton flag, carried as a standard by the fans of the Brestois Matmatah. The group truly launched this edition of Rock in Évreux with almost 1 hour 30 of rock concert with punk accents. Songs that have not aged a day and which – for some – are still relevant, like the apology.

The crowd was also huge to welcome Kyo. Every gesture (or piece of clothing removed) of the singer was accompanied by screams. Benoît Poher chained together the hits at a frantic pace.

Shaka Ponk, the big Saturday concert

We will remain divided on the course of this first evening of the festival. The artists delivered, but we are inevitably disappointed for Captain Sparks & Royal Company who gave their all in front of a crowd that was too small. We will also remember some very big hiccups in terms of the organization: crowded parking lots, huge queues at the entrances, at the bank to get the irritating cashless card (more than forty minutes sometimes), at the bars, at the food trucks and even in the toilets.

Hoping for better results this Saturday, June 29th. The festival will open at 5pm with Möön (5:30pm), Eagle Eye Cherry (7pm), FFF (8:30pm), Shaka Ponk (10:15pm), Danakil (12:30am) and Doorshan (2am). DJ Sam and then Grys will handle the transitions between the artists.
