Saint Andrew. Concerns at college: “Numbers in 6th grade are exploding”

Faced with forecasts of an increase in staff numbers and lack of human resources, a mobilization was born.

This Tuesday from 8 a.m., the educational team of the Pierre-Mendès-France college, Snalc and Snes-FSU union representatives, as well as parents of students mobilized in front of the gates of the establishment to make their concerns known for the next school year. Fears which mainly focus on classes of 6e.

“School climate is deteriorating”

“The numbers are exploding, comment the teachers. The forecasts were for 182 students for the next school year. However, we already have around ten repeaters and the class councils are not over. Without forgetting the 19 exemptions already accepted. You have to open another 6e. And we won’t be able to take on all the additional hours.”. The concerned educational team clarifies “that there are also four students in Ulis and 19 middle school students needing an AESH”. It is with the same voice that everyone speaks “loss of means of the establishment” or “the quality of teaching” which is no longer there. This situation will “against well-being at school”. They go on to explain that they “filled in the gaps throughout the year, without saying anything. With today five teachers and the head of the establishment who is ill.” Worried about “the situation and school climate are deteriorating”, they chose to mobilize before the patent tests next week. In a long letter addressed to the Academic Director of National Education Services (Dasen), they list all the problems and dysfunctions they face: “The elimination of the social worker position, the non-renewal of the school doctor position, the endangerment of the psychiatrist-EN position, as well as the overstaffing of 6 year old studentse“. On the academy side, “the situation of the establishment is studied in order to provide appropriate responses”.

The parent delegates, aware of the overstaffing and the negative consequences, joined the movement, informed parents and launched a petition in order to raise awareness among as many people as possible in the region.

Everyone hopes to be heard before the start of the holidays so that the next school year goes off in good conditions.
