SNCF: 12 million tickets not sold at the start of the summer period: News

SNCF is struggling to sell its TGV and Intercités tickets. The trains are far from full even though the railway company has increased its offer by 400,000 places compared to summer 2023.

SNCF train ticket sales have been open since March 13, and while 1.5 million seats were sold in the first 24 hours, the trains are still far from full. Indeed, two out of three seats have not yet been taken, reports Le Figaro on Tuesday, July 2.

Alain Krakovitch, director of TGV and Intercités, is nevertheless confident. He stated at the end of June that there was “a good anticipation” for ticket reservations, but that “people are saying that everything is full”.

Tickets still at affordable prices

Alain Krakovitch advises travelers to act quickly to buy their tickets because “the earlier you buy, the cheaper it is”, recalling that “if you leave in August and if you buy them now, you will get them at attractive prices”.

SNCF is not the only one to see a slow start. Indeed, Air France is also suffering from a lack of tourists in the run-up to the Olympic Games. The latter would avoid the inconveniences of the capital during this period.

SNCF had planned 400,000 more seats on its trains compared to 2023. The railway company will also be responsible for transporting athletes during the Games. It will also adapt its train schedules, particularly in Lille, to match the end time of the basketball events.
