A 24-year-old man was sentenced by the Angers court (Maine-et-Loire) this Monday, June 24. He was on trial for trespassing on his former partner’s home, as well as for violence and harassment.

Friday June 21, 2024, the defendant was refused entry to the home of his former partner, then entered through a French window, closed it behind him and attacked his former partner.

The victim’s testimony was corroborated by the use of videos from cameras that she had installed after a dismissal of the case obtained by the defendant, as part of a previous procedure. “At 2:25 p.m., we see you give a violent slap, then a second. You then grabbed his head and pulled his hair,” describes the president, Claire Notenboom.

Eighteen months in prison

Other elements were detailed, notably from telephone operations. “She called you twice and sent 56 messages,” explains the president, who specifies that the vast majority of them were about asking the defendant to no longer contact or meet her. He called the victim 130 times, sometimes within a minute of each other, and sent her 168 messages, between May 3 and June 21.

Lucile Cattoir, for the public prosecutor, made the defendant admit that the victim had not ” guest “ to enter. In what way Me Corinne Vallée, for the defense, sees an increased capacity of the accused to recognize the facts. Me Magatte Diop, for the civil party, highlighted the fact that the victim “complained several times but without material evidence”.

The defendant was sentenced to eighteen months in prison (including six from a previous suspended sentence) with continued detention and an immediate incarceration order, as well as a ban on contact and appearance for three years, withdrawal of parental authority and €2,000 in moral damages. Not to mention five years of ban from French territory, for this native of Guinea, who was subject to an obligation to leave French territory.
