This Friday, June 28, the symbol of the Olympic Games will make its debut in Champagne-Ardenne, with a first journey to Haut-Marne between Langres and Saint-Dizier. We detail the progress of this historic day.

It’s a long-awaited moment, almost timeless. This Friday, June 28, the Olympic Flame will shine in Haute-Marne for a day. From 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., all eyes will be on the department, which is inaugurating the passing of the torch in Champagne-Ardenne.

For this 43rd stage, the first lighting will take place in Langres and the flame will pass through a total of seven communes in Haute-Marne, including Bourbonne-les-Bains, Nogent, Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, Chaumont, Froncles and Saint-Dizier.

Please note, the schedules that we provide below are subject to change, due to the reality on the ground.

Furthermore, the Flame does not travel the paths that separate each commune. When one ends its journey in a city, it is turned back on a few minutes later in the next city.

Langres / 9:30 a.m.-10:18 a.m.

  • Departure from Diderot high school / Arrival at Langres town hall.

The Flame’s journey in Champagne-Ardenne will therefore begin at the Diderot high school in Langres, including a passage through the Porte des Moulins and the Saint-Mammès cathedral. A collective relay organized by the French Weightlifting Federation will then escort the torch to the town hall.

48 minutes of crossing, followed by numerous activities which will punctuate this entire day in Langres. From 11 a.m., primary school students organize a batucada (percussion ensemble to play samba) at the Langres music school.

Sporting and cultural events are also planned: notably freestyle football at 3:30 p.m., led by world champion Gautier Fayolle. This will happen on Allée de la Blanchefontaine.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a pole vault performance on Place Diderot with ten French athletes. This will be followed by a fanfare at 7:15 p.m. on the square in front of the Cathedral, a zouk concert until 11 p.m., then a concert by DJ Georges Agouazi in the Cloister of the Cathedral.

Bourbonne-les-Bains / 11 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.

  • Departure from the Station / Arrival at Place des Bains

For the second stage of the Haut-Marne route, the Flame will make a quick visit to this spa town known since Antiquity. The start will be given by a procession of majorettes called “Les Hirondelles”.

The route promises to be flowery: it will be dotted with paper flowers made by residents of the town’s EHPAD and SMTI.

The festivities will end with a body percussion performance led by primary school children, and various games offered by middle school students.

Nogent / 11:38 a.m. – 12:25 p.m.

  • Departure from rue Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny / Arrival rue de la Piscine.

The Olympic torch will then spend almost an hour in Nogent, the town which made its reputation through knife manufacturing. At the top of the Traire valley, the flame will start this stage from rue Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, passing by the town hall and the Françoise Dolto college before ending its route on rue de la Piscine.

From 9 a.m., activities will punctuate this event, including the Olympic Games for middle school students from Nogent, Montigny and Bourbonne organized at the Robert Henry sports and cultural center. You can see several disciplines there: football, judo, baseball, handball, etc., from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In the evening, DJ Kévin Roussel will keep the town buzzing until midnight.

  • Departure from the town hall of Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises / Arrival at the De Gaulle Memorial.

This is perhaps the most symbolic step. On the lands of General de Gaulle the flame will pass for thirty minutes to the rhythm of our recent history. She will leave from the town hall and will be escorted to the General’s memorial.

The nature of the activities is not specified, only this procession of 14 classes which will leave the town hall at 1 p.m., one hour before the flame begins its Colombian journey.

The departmental capital sees things big. For more than an hour, the torch will be escorted throughout the city. From the east – departure planned at the Cité des sapeurs-pompiers -, to the north-west and the Town Hall, it will pass near the Edmé-Bouchardon high school and the Jean-Philippe Lemouton and Jean Masson gymnasiums, before one bypasses the Square du Bouligrin.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Chaumont will be in Olympic colors with multiple activities in hotspots. The Square du Bouligrin will be the scene of various games (the Olympic Games in medieval times will surely be worth a look) and introduction to climbing.

Disciplines to also discover at the Daniel Louis stadium: baseball, boxing, fencing, breakdancing, gymnastics, rugby.

In the evening, from 8 p.m., the stadium will be transformed into a performance venue with the “Queen-a-man”, this tribute group to Freddie Mercury.

It is in this place that the Olympic Cauldron will be lit by two designated flame bearers.
