Its mission is clearly defined: to draw up an indictment before 2025 and the prescription of the first facts. Charles Navarro, former prosecutor with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Confederation, is now in charge of the wine aspect of the Giroud affair. At the head of a law firm specializing in dispute resolution, particularly in matters of economic criminal law, he was appointed extraordinary prosecutor on June 21, 2024. An appointment announced this Monday, via the official bulletin of the Canton of Valais .

Signed by Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud, the announcement mentions an immediate entry into office, in order to “handle a particular case”. Contacted, Beatrice Pilloud confirms Time that it is indeed the Giroud file, named after the Valais wine merchant Dominique Giroud. The latter is under criminal investigation, triggered by a complaint filed in 2015 for fraud, unfair management, forgery of titles and unfair competition. He would have put “cut” wines on sale under the name “AOC Valais”. If the Valais Public Prosecutor’s Office has closed the procedure relating to facts which allegedly took place before 2010, those concerning facts which allegedly occurred after this date are still in progress.
