The RN has been progressing unabated at the polls since 2002, always broadening the sociological base of its electorate. Polls place the far-right party in the lead for the early legislative elections. In the European elections of June 2024, the National Rally won 39% of the vote. No longer just protesters, the voters of the French far-right are now convinced. To understand the normalization of RN ideas and voting, we look at the party’s ideology with Nicolas Lebourg.

The political class also bears responsibility for this rise of the extreme right in France. Beyond the gradual resumption of the terms and themes of this ideology in other political parties, the debates with its leaders, is the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9 by the President of the Republic the last crisis? who will lead the RN to power? What is the responsibility of the media?

We’re talking about it this evening with Nicolas Lebourg, historian, specialist in the extreme right, researcher at the Center for Political Studies of Latin Europe (CEPEL) at the University of Montpellier. Author notably of “ The extreme rights in Europe » co-written with Jean-Yves Camus (2015) and “ Did the Nazis survive?” (2019) published by Seuil. In September, “Paris-Moscow, a century of the extreme right” will be published (Editions du Seuil).
