Rennes lets an international go to Germany

The Stade Rennais transfer window is very cautious, like that of its competitors in Ligue 1. But the Breton club has still validated Fabian Rieder’s departure for the Bundesliga.

After the departure of Florian Maurice, Rennes discovers F’s methodsrédéric Massara, even if the new sports director will officially take office at the beginning of July. But in the meantime, Julien Stéphan’s team is already starting to evolve, particularly in the direction of departures. Because several players have exit vouchers and this is for example the case of Fabian Rieder, the Swiss international midfielder who is currently participating in Euro 2024. Landed last summer at Roazhon Park for 15 million euros from the Young Boys, the 22-year-old player is already leaving Brittany. An agreement has been reached with a Bundesliga club, even if it is not a direct transfer for Fabian Rieder.

This Monday noon, VFB Stuttgart, runner-up to Leverkusen in the German championship and therefore qualified for the Champions League, formalized the arrival of the player from Stade Rennais. In order to reach an agreement, the Bundesliga club validated a purchase option of 15 million euros, which would make the operation neutral or almost neutral for Stade Rennais if the operation was finalized in 2025. Fabian Rider is the Breton club’s second departure for Germany, since Jeanuël Belocian signed for Leverkusen in exchange for 20 million euros.
