Thursdays of Nîmes, launched in 1994, returns from July 4 to August 29. Musical stages, craft markets, tasting of local products and an artistic space will enliven the city center.

The City of Nîmes estimates that 60,000 people stroll through the city center every Thursday in the summer. A windfall for the local economy.

Thursdays in Nîmes have become an unmissable event. Launched in 1994, they are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary this year and will take place from July 4 to August 29. They were officially presented this Monday at the town hall where, in turn, Jean-Paul Fournier, the mayor, and Valentine Wolber, the assistant for shops, commercial activities and the revitalization of the center, insisted on the showcase that represents this event which will be structured, once again, around four themes.

There will obviously be a question of craft markets (from 6 p.m.) at the usual locations (place de la Calade, rue de la Madeleine, boulevard Victor-Hugo and square in front of the Maison Carrée). Something new this year with stands on rue Auguste.

Art in Square Antonin

They will, in a way, link with the Jeudi art artistic space which, for the second year in a row, will take over Square Antonin. This space is sponsored by the artist Melvyn Barros who announces the presence of caricaturists, illustrators, painters, sculptors, musicians and athletes. There are around 80 of them every Thursday in this space which, last year, was visited each week by 4,000 people.

Thursdays of Nîmes is also music with twelve stages offering jazz (Maison Carrée), salsa-latino (place de l’Horloge), French song (place de la Calade), pop- rock (Place Montcalm), Celtic rock (Place de l’Abbé-Pierre), classical (Carré d’art auditorium), organ (Saint-Paul church), variety (on Bellecroix dishes, with Herbes, town hall, square Antonin and esplanade).

There will also be tastings of local products on the esplanade with JeudiVin des Costières de Nîmes (from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.); also with the brewers area of ​​the Buvez Gardois association, place de l’Abbé-Pierre.

A big sale and shows in the arenas

The second Nîmes Thursday of this 2024 edition will coincide with the big clearance sale which will be launched on July 11. It will take place until July 13. On this occasion, surface parking will be free on Friday July 12 and Saturday July 13.

Alongside Thursdays of Nîmes, additional shows will also complete the offering in the arenas. On August 6, 7, 9, 12, 13 and 14, Edeis will organize six performances of the show The Legend of the Gardens. Two Camargue races, counting for the As and Future trophies, will take place on August 22 and 29. The big goalkeeper Olympics will be scheduled for Friday August 23. Note also that Thursdays in Nîmes will also correspond with concerts by Sofiane Pamart (July 4), Macklemore (July 11), Dadju and Tayc (July 18).
