Following victories against Bosnia and the Netherlands, the German national Football team has already qualified for the knockout stage of the UEFA Nations League ahead of schedule in October. In the remaining two matches, the DFB team aims to secure first place in Group 3 of League A. The chances of achieving two more victories in November are looking good, as Germany will face two relatively weak opponents.
First up, head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina at home on Saturday, November 16. Germany managed to secure a 2:1 victory against the Balkan side in October. Currently sitting at the bottom of the table with only one point, Bosnia and Herzegovina is unlikely to find success against the DFB team at the Europa-Park Stadium in Freiburg. Nevertheless, perhaps the next German opponent could spring a surprise. The match is set to kick off at 20:45 and will be broadcast live on free-to-air television via RTL and streamed on RTL+.
Three days later, Germany will face Hungary for the third time this year. The DFB team has won both previous encounters, winning 2:0 during the group stage at the home Euro in June and thrashing Hungary 5:0 in their UEFA Nations League first leg on September 7. The return leg in Budapest will commence on Tuesday, November 19, at 20:45 and will be live on ZDF as well as available on the ZDF Mediathek.

Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Kai Havertz (FC Arsenal), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Niclas Füllkrug (West Ham United), and Robin Koch (Eintracht Frankfurt) were among the players sidelined due to injuries during the last international matches in October. Consequently, Julian Nagelsmann had to reconstruct his squad and gave opportunities to debutants Jamie Leweling (VfB Stuttgart), Jonathan Burkardt (Mainz 05), and Tim Kleindienst (Borussia Mönchengladbach). Notably, Leweling scored the winning goal in the 1:0 victory against the Netherlands. However, due to injury, this midfield star will not be available for November’s matches. On Thursday, November 7, Nagelsmann announced the final squad for the remaining UEFA Nations League matches, revealing the following lineup:

Wirtz Leads Germany Against Bosnia and Herzegovina
We will keep you updated on all significant events surrounding the DFB national team’s matches in November.
Julian Nagelsmann can count on Florian Wirtz in the last home international of the year. The offensive player has recovered sufficiently from his illness to feature against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday (20:45/RTL) in Freiburg. “As of today, he should be able to play. Whether he can go the full 90 minutes is uncertain,” said Nagelsmann ahead of the final training session at the Europa-Park Stadium. Wirtz suffered from a stomach upset and only joined team training on Thursday. A victory against Bosnia would secure the national team’s spot at the top of the Nations League group.

Nagelsmann stated that all 21 available players in his squad are ready for action. The only absentee is Nico Schlotterbeck, who is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. As previously announced, the head coach plans to rest some players, possibly fielding them only temporarily. Nagelsmann did not disclose any names. He has confirmed, however, that Oliver Baumann will start in goal against Bosnia on Saturday, while Alexander Nübel is set to make his second international appearance in Hungary on Tuesday (20:45/ZDF).
Simultaneously, Nagelsmann announced that the rotation of goalkeepers will come to an end in March during the Nations League quarter-finals. He intends to finalize his choice for a replacement for the injured first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who is expected to return to the national team no earlier than next summer following a knee injury.
One day before the Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, head coach Julian Nagelsmann was able to conduct the final training session with all 22 players in his squad. Florian Wirtz, who had been unwell, participated, as did the injured first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who visited the DFB team in Frankfurt. Oliver Baumann will take his place in goal against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After the training session, the national team will travel by bus to Freiburg, where 28,000 spectators are expected for Saturday’s (20:45/RTL) last home game of the year in the Europa-Park Stadium.
In the Nations League, the DFB selection is still competing for the group victory, with Germany already a confirmed participant in the quarter-finals in March. The declared objective is to qualify for the final tournament in summer 2025, potentially to be held in Germany.
Nagelsmann announced at the beginning of the week that due to the comfortably sporting position, he would be ready to make compromises with the lineup and rest players who have been heavily utilized.
Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann is set to make his second international appearance for Germany on Saturday in the Nations League. The 34-year-old from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has been preferred by head coach Julian Nagelsmann for the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina (20:45/RTL) over Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel (28). On Friday, Baumann will join Nagelsmann for the final press conference of the DFB squad in Freiburg’s stadium.
All signs point to Nübel starting in the concluding group match on Tuesday (20:45/ZDF) in Budapest against Hungary. Nagelsmann decided on this working arrangement – with both goalkeepers taking turns – back in October. Nübel made his international debut in Zenica against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Baumann played his first match against the Netherlands in Munich. Germany has already secured qualification for the Nations League quarter-finals, and victory in Freiburg would confirm the group win.
First-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (32) from FC Barcelona will be absent from the national team for several months due to a severe knee injury. The third-choice goalkeeper in the current squad is Stefan Ortega Moreno (32) from Manchester City, who had never been selected for the DFB team before.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann will have to do without Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller in the final group matches of the Nations League. The 23-year-old, who has three senior caps so far, left the national team’s training camp in Frankfurt due to muscular problems. It remains unclear whether a player will be called up as a replacement.
Stiller missed the previous training sessions ahead of the matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday (20:45/RTL) in Freiburg and against Hungary on Tuesday (20:45/ZDF) in Budapest. Also absent so far has been Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz (21) due to illness.
Nagelsmann has emphasized that he intends to pay close attention to the fitness levels of his players. According to the DFB, all other 18 outfield players and three goalkeepers participated in the private training session on Wednesday in Frankfurt. Following the announcement of the selection, Stiller’s VfB teammate Deniz Undav had to withdraw due to injury. Qualification for the quarter-finals of the UEFA tournament in March 2025 has already been secured.
