This season will go down in history for Spuc. After triumphing in the final of the Terroir, then of Aquitaine, Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle won the French Regional 2 champion shield. The Senpertar dominated the final against Millas (27-15) which was played this Sunday on the lawn of the Capucins stadium in Cazères (Haute-Garonne).
This group of kids guided by old veterans – like a Cute Ximun who played at the opening – took control very early in this meeting, with a corner try from Jean Echeveste before the first quarter of an hour (11-3, 13th). The winger who will do it again just before the break, with a try again transformed by Gabi Lacroix (18-3, 39th), enough to offer Spuc a comfortable mattress, against a team which was playing its third final of the French championship of rank.
During the second half, Spuc was able to manage this lead. Despite a try from Pech for the Catalans after returning from the locker room (18-11, 44th), St-Pée managed to respond, taking advantage of his opponent’s indiscipline (27-15, 65th). Despite a last stand from Millas, who tried to take the penalties with his hands in the last quarter of an hour, the players of David Gaillet and Christian Sanchez will hold on to put their hands on a national shield.
