An 18-year-old young man died and another was seriously injured with a stab during the night from Saturday to Sunday in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), announced the prosecution, after a brawl “involving several people” according to a police source.

The events occurred in the Port-Boinot district being reconverted, a former industrial wasteland that has become a wooded area on the banks of the Sèvre Niortaise.
“This was a fight involving several people. One of them pulled out a knife which injured two people, one of whom was fatal, explained a police source, specifying that the perpetrator(s) were still being sought.
The firefighters intervened at 3:25 a.m. to “rescue (these) two men injured with knives a few minutes earlier,” wrote Julien Wattebled, public prosecutor in Niort, in a press release, confirming information from the daily La Nouvelle Republic.
An open investigation
The two victims were evacuated to hospital, where the death of a young man aged 18 was pronounced at 4:30 a.m. The other victim, of the same age, underwent emergency surgery with a life-threatening condition. His condition remains “serious but stabilized” at this stage, according to the prosecutor.
The prosecution opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder, entrusted to the Niort police station and the interdepartmental judicial police service (SIPJ 86), organized and specialized crime division (DCOS) of Poitiers.
“All means are being used to identify the perpetrator(s) of these acts and to understand their origin,” said the prosecution, which launched a call for witnesses.
