Musée Massey: Antonio Saura, the Fifth of the Deaf

Of June 18 to September 22, 2024the Massey museum in Tarbeits the pleasure of presenting a set of 36 rarely exhibited drawings by Antonio Saura, internationally renowned artist from Huesca. This exhibition is organized on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the Tarbes-Huesca twinning.

La Quinta del Sordo, title of this set of “overlays”, refers to the house acquired by Goya in the surroundingsus the Madridwhere he made the famous Black paints. Antonio Saura, for his part, works with ink and acrylic, sometimes with pencil, on printed images, mainly reproductions of works of art. Under the lines and the angry flat areas, we can recognize the figures of theInfant Margaretof nain de Velasquez or even the Goya’s Pestle.

The multiple references to the art of the great masters, characteristic of all of Antonio Saura’s work, testify to his desire to position himself alongside them, in the continuity of the history of painting.
