This Saturday, Ousmane Diagne, mayor of Thiès Est, chaired the foundation stone laying ceremony for the transformation of the Diaw Macodou Diop Hippodrome, known locally as “Champs de Courses”, into a modern football stadium . This project, with an estimated cost of 189 million FCFA, will be entirely financed by the town hall of Thiès Est and should be completed by the end of 2024.

The new stadium will have dimensions of 100 meters by 64 meters and will be equipped with a latest generation synthetic pitch. This project represents a major step forward for the local community, offering young talents a suitable place to train and play in optimal conditions. “This project is the culmination of a dream that we have always had. On many occasions, we watched big matches with a pang in our hearts, seeing talents that could not fully express themselves due to the dire state of the sandy pitch. We dreamed of transforming this stadium into a synthetic pitch and today, thanks to the support of the municipal office, we were able to mobilize an envelope of 189 million FCFA to create a latest generation synthetic pitch,” declared Mayor Ousmane Diagne.

In addition to the installation of the synthetic pitch, the project also includes the complete renovation of the public lighting around the stadium. The four current pylons will be replaced by the latest generation equipment, ensuring optimal lighting for all future events.

“We want to offer the young people of Thiès Est an environment conducive to realizing their dreams, by providing them with a modern, quality football field,” added the mayor. Until now, the Champs de Courses served as a field for Navétane matches in zones 3A, 3B, 5A, and 5B. During the duration of the work, these matches will be temporarily moved to the Maniang Soumaré stadium. With this new stadium, the young talents of Thies will be able to train and play in ideal conditions.
