Aubagne: the renovation of rue de la République has started

These last months, the City of Aubagne has initiated a vast plan to renovate its streets and traffic routes in order to improve roads, particularly in its city center. “ 2024 will see the city center calmed down with partial pedestrianization, during markets and major events, the first step in a more global reflection that we must conduct together. This will in particular be the rehabilitation of the continuation of Avenue de la République », had mentioned Gérard Gazay, its mayor, during the greeting ceremony. From 2019, Rue de la République, a major shopping street in the city of Pagnol, underwent a first renovation, going from Place de l’Horloge to Cours Beaumont. Now, since June 17, this artery will experience a period of major work until the end of August.

Traffic will be one-way going down from Boulevard Lakanal towards Boulevard Jean Jaurès in order to allow the continuity of the developments already carried out on the first part of the street from the Clock. This program, which was the subject of a consultation and discussion meeting with traders on April 26, 2024, plans to maintain the sidewalks up to this part. This renovation of the streets will notably make it possible to install container caches and two planters in the continuity of the cool island on the Place des Quinze and in the two successive bends. “The objective is to maintain the place of nature in the city while ensuring aesthetic coherence between public facilities and the materials used on a city scale.“, explain Faustine Thibaud, municipal councilor responsible for ecology.

The arrival of the Val’Tram

On the Cours Foch, following the street and the crossing of Coquières, the City has carried out developments around the Monoprix store in deactivated concrete which have just been completed. On the Cours Voltaire, the Val’Tram work will last until the end of 2025 for commissioning in spring 2026. In order to limit disruptions, the work is carried out during the week, only from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.. A central information center has been set up on the course with a team of mediators, key contacts for local residents and traders.

Around the Espace des Libertés, EPAGE HuCA began dewatering work two months ago. To provide the plantations with general development conditions, it was necessary to remove the existing fill and decompact the soil which had been concreted to add new good quality soil. The soil, currently in the regeneration phase, was amended and infiltration basins were created.

The revegetation will be carried out in the fall, a favorable season for this.. Until then, perennial plants will be planted along the route. The upcoming planting will be denser with four plants per m2 and more than two thousand shrubs and trees. Thanks to this work, water will be able to infiltrate into the ground, reach the water table and restore its regenerative capacities to the earth. “ The city center is thus the subject of numerous developments to improve the living environment. Our objective is to beautify it, to make it more attractive to strengthen its economic dynamism but also more pleasant for its inhabitants on a daily basis. “, has recalled Alain Roussetdeputy mayor responsible for regional planning.
