Born in Nîmes and trained in Monaco, defender Mehdi Beneddine, 28, signed a two-year contract with Nîmes Olympique. Last season, he played in Nationale 2 at Puy Foot 43 Auvergne.
Nîmes Olympique, which loaned Paul Wade to Puy and amicably terminated Fabrice Ondoa’s contract, has its first recruit: left back Mehdi Beneddine, 28, who has just signed a two-year contract. Born in Nîmes, the Franco-Moroccan arrives from Puy Foot 43 Auvergne (National 2) where he was captain.
With the Haute-Loire club, which finished 2nd in group A and reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France (1-3 defeat to Rennes), he played 31 matches (24 in the league, 7 in the Coupe of France) last season, with 3 goals.
LE PUY FOOT 43
Mehdi Beneddine will be put in competition with Namakoro Diallo, the crocodile club not wishing to keep the other left back under contract, Sanasi Sy, who appeared only 13 times last season.
Seven seasons in Monaco
In Gard, Beneddine started football at OC Bellegardais before wearing the colors of Nîmes Olympique for two seasons (U13 and U14) and Nîmes Lasallien (U15). In 2011, at the age of 15, he joined AS Monaco with an apprentice contract. During his seven seasons spent in the Principality, interrupted by a loan to Cercles Bruges (Belgian D2, 10 matches) between January and June 2017, he never managed to break through despite signing a professional contract.
63 matches de National
After Monaco, he signed for Quevilly-Rouen in National where, in two seasons, from 2018 to 2020, he played 53 matches (5 assists), in all competitions. Mehdi Beneddine then tried an experience abroad, in Algeria, within USM Alger, in the first division. His first season (2020-2021) was successful (30 matches, 3 assists), not his second (only one appearance), which he finished on loan to Châteauroux in the National (14 matches, 2 assists).
After a blank season in 2022-2023, Mehdi Beneddine relaunched last season at Le Puy (N2).
