A man suffered very serious injuries and his wife died, early Wednesday afternoon, during a violent road accident between a car and a heavy goods vehicle, in Bécancour, in Center-du-Québec .
The collision occurred around 1:15 p.m., at the intersection of Route 263 and Chemin des Bouvreuils.
According to authorities, the accident occurred when the trucker attempted to cross Route 263 from Chemin des Bouvreuils.
The driver of the car would not have been able to avoid the impact, even though he was traveling in an area where the speed limit is set at 90 km/h. In all likelihood, the heavy goods vehicle would have cut the path of the car.
An elderly couple were in the car, an 81-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman.
The latter, who was a passenger, died instantly. His death was pronounced on the spot.
Her husband was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. In particular, he suffered several fractures.
The truck driver was not injured.
The intersection was completely closed to traffic to allow collision investigation specialists to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident.
