The entrance to Les Petits ponts school was lively this Thursday, June 13, and for good reason: the students of the middle section class participated, with enthusiasm, in planting succulents. The activity was launched by their teacher, Cécile Colombié, who wanted to make the entrance to the establishment more welcoming. “This corner was cluttered, with boxes and even bicycles. The goal was to create a friendly space, as soon as you enter, to bring life back to the school. »

In preparation for a few weeks

The children, with their teacher and Laurine, specialized territorial agent for nursery schools (Atsem), had been preparing for the arrival of the plants for several weeks. They first stored and sorted the bulky items, then decorated the space with paintings in the shape of flowers. Cécile Colombié then spoke with Marina Ruggeri, responsible for the development and maintenance of the city center. “She was the one who showed the children the municipal greenhouses and was responsible for having some plants delivered to us to add flowers to the space. I didn’t expect so much. A big thank you to her,” underlines the delighted teacher.

Potting

The middle school children were busy around the succulents, listening attentively to the advice given by Laurence and Patricia, agents in the City’s green spaces department. Nothing is left to chance, not even the choice of plantations. “These are succulent plants that tolerate heat and lack of water. They are able to survive thanks to their thick leaves,” Laurence explained to the children. Each child was then able to participate individually, by digging a hole, armed with small shovels or for the most skilled by hand, then each planting their own succulent.

For the fifteen children, it was a first experience. Everyone was amazed, supervised by their teacher who was more than delighted by the enthusiasm of her students: “This promotes their autonomy and I hope that it will teach them to respect the flowers they see in the street, by avoiding picking them. »
