Contrary to what Eurostat data suggests, greenhouse gas emissions from industries in the two countries are almost identical, France Stratégie said on Tuesday. A conclusion which matches that of La Fabrique de l'industrie published in September.
We know the debate on energy was decided in favor of France, but does the French manufacturing industry emit more greenhouse gases than its neighbor across the Rhine? In any case, this is what Eurostat, the European statistical agency, seems to be saying. A note published by France Stratégie this Tuesday, November 12, attempts to understand the reasons, and calls for these results to be put into perspective, estimating that once statistical biases have been corrected, the differences are almost zero. The conclusion, which is similar to that of a note published at the beginning of September by La Fabrique de l'industrie, allows us to understand differently the decarbonization of industry underway in Europe.
“We had no idea what we were going to find, whether the differences between the two countries came from technical or organizational advantages of German industry, or from statistical biases,” explains Nathalie Popiolek, economist at France Stratégie and co-author of the study with Sylvain
