Legislative elections in Marne: the outgoing deputies are all returning to the campaign

Voters will return to the polls on June 30 and July 7, to vote in early legislative elections. In Marne, the casting of candidates has been known since this Sunday, June 16, 2024, even if some had already announced it beforehand. On the starting line, the outgoing deputies have all already left for the campaign. One of the first to announce his schedule of public meetings was Charles de Courson (Liot), who was re-elected in 2022 for a seventh term in the fifth constituency, which brings together Vitry-le-François and Sézanne. He then won in the second round against RN candidate Pierre Thionnet, with 63% of the votes cast.

Facing him, this June 30, 2024, Joëlle Bastien (Workers’ Struggle), Thierry Besson, departmental delegate of the RN in Marne, as well as the socialist Gaël Padiou, candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP), will be on the starting line.

In the fourth constituency (Châlons-en-Champagne), the outgoing MP is Lise Magnier (Horizons). She also won against the RN in 2022. And this time the elected official could find the same pattern in the second round. In the running, a parachuted RN candidate from Meurthe-et-Moselle, Achille Bisiaux, but also Marty Ducanda (Revolutionary Alliance), the municipal councilor of Châlons-en-Champagne Gabriel Michel (Les Républicains, LR), the rebellious Maxence Laurent (NFP) and Laurent Gosseau (Workers’ Struggle).

In the third constituency (Épernay), the outgoing deputy Éric Girardin (Renaissance) will also seek a new mandate. In June 2022, he won the second round with 51.4% of the votes. In 2024, he will have five opponents facing him: Johanna Jabbour (Debout la France), Julien Sene (without label), Charlotte Cormerais (Lutte Ouvrière), Maxime Michelet (RN), a close friend of Éric Ciotti from Châlons-en -Champagne, and the communist Chantal Berthélémy (NFP), who came in third position for Nupes, in June 2022.

Their third duel in two years, after a canceled election

In the second constituency (Reims West), Laure Miller (Renaissance) risks finding herself again elbow to elbow with Anne-Sophie Frigout (RN, elected European deputy on June 9, 2024), for the fifth time in two years. The election of Anne-Sophie Frigout, in June 2022, had in fact been invalidated by the Constitutional Council following an appeal made by Laure Miller, for ballots deemed non-compliant. In January 2023, the latter beat the RN candidate with less than 700 votes difference in the second round.

Stéphane Lang (LR), already a candidate in the previous election, will also be there. The deputy mayor of Reims has, however, just been sanctioned by the mayor, Arnaud Robinet, who withdrew his deputy delegation for having launched a wild poster campaign, the evening of the announcement of the dissolution of the ‘National Assembly. Voters in this constituency will also be able to vote for the rebellious Stéphane Pirouelle (NFP), Thomas Rose (Workers’ Struggle), Ghislain Wysocinski (without a label) or Marie Pace (Reconquest).

Finally, in the first constituency (Reims North), Xavier Albertini (Horizons) is also a candidate for his succession. Facing him, the RN candidate, Adrien Mexis, also has the support of Éric Ciotti, while on the left are the ecologist Évelyne Bourgoin (NFP) and Vincent Varlet (Lutte Ouvrière).
