Tuesday June 11, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., around forty children from Sainte-Marie primary school and their teachers visited the farm of Patrick Jouy, a Livradais strawberry grower based on the Barianis site. With his elected colleagues from the MSA Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne (1) and the elected officials of the Villeneuve-sur-Lot agency committee, the owner of the premises offered a visit and workshops to help people discover and better understand the world agricultural. “As part of our mandate’s project, we wish, through this action and other initiatives, to promote agricultural professions among young people. »


Between plans and plants, the schoolchildren discovered the world of strawberry growing.

During this afternoon of discovery, the schoolchildren visited the greenhouses and learned about the life cycles of strawberries. Then they participated in a culinary workshop in collaboration with the managers of the Hang’art solidarity restaurant, during which they made recipes using strawberries (juices, soups, desserts). Finally, the young visitors took part in a “stolon” ​​workshop (long stem starting from the base of a plant, producing roots and a new plant at its end), to transplant strawberry plants.

“This is the first event of this kind that we are organizing, but we regularly carry out other actions on the ground,” indicated Eric Jean-Jacques, elected official of the MSA, alongside Marie-Pierre Andrieu, facilitator. We, for example, carried out an action with employees of the Chemins vertes de l’emploi, to discuss agricultural professions. It is important, especially after Covid, and in a particular agricultural context, to communicate about this world, to children and adults. »

At the end of the visit, the participants shared a snack made by the schoolchildren and Hang’Art. Enough to seduce the taste buds and perhaps create future vocations…
