This Thursday, November 21, 2024the construction site of the Intercantonal bypass link North of Montpellier (Link) has taken a symbolic step. The framework of the Mosson viaduct, the central element of the project, was installed on its final location, in the town of Combaillauxon the last section of the direct A709-A750 link.
This bridge, 73 meters long, 18 meters wide, and weighing more than 400 tonnes, embodies the will of the Department of Hérault to improve travel in the north of Montpellier and beyond.
Jerome Lopezdepartmental councilor of the canton of Saint-Gély-du-Fesc, underlines the importance of this work: “This project, which has existed for more than 30 years, is crucial to relieve congestion on the outskirts of Montpellier and facilitate mobility throughout the territory of the Grand Pic Saint-Loup. »
A technical and environmental challenge
The viaduct framework required months of preparation. Six teams of welders took turns to assemble its elements, manufactured in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire (Loiret) and transported to site by exceptional convoys. The side beams, delivered in three parts, were carefully assembled before being consolidated with transverse welds.
Beyond the technical challenge, the site took environmental issues into account. The supports of the viaduct were positioned more than 5 meters from the banks, in order to preserve the riparian forest and maintain the hydraulic transparency of the watercourse.
This infrastructure, designed to connect the territories and avoid the center of Montpellier, required an investment of nearly 5 million euros for the viaduct alone. For Jérôme Lopez, this moment is full of symbols: “Installing this bridge means materializing the concrete progress of this project. This shows that the LINK is becoming a reality. »
