Go France !

Go France !
Go France !

It’s an understatement to say that summer is not shaping up as expected. After the European elections, we had to slide towards more carefree weeks with the Euro football then the Tour de France as an opening and the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a climax. There was certainly no shortage of subjects for bickering – Will we be able to swim in the Seine? How to get around Paris? Mbappé or Griezmann captain? Giroud, on the field or on the bench? –, but they now appear minor. Even those who don’t like sports must today miss the time when these picrocholine discussions promised to be the center of the summer break.

Euro 2024: fractured society seeks opportunity to commune

Competitions, however, provide an opportunity to measure the aspirations of a nation, while the lessons of sport frequently inspire other fields. In companies, we sometimes invite sports coaches so that they can share their culture of performance and team cohesion.

In the political field, we would also benefit from drawing inspiration from this experience. Thus, in football, good understanding within the team, on the field but also off it, is often a good omen: which results in an expression that has become a classic “the group lives well”. However, if we look at the political field, it is obvious that the French Nation group is not living well, not even well at all. At the dawn of the legislative campaign, the country is divided, fractured in multiple ways.

Olivier Abel: “There is deep cultural, even civilizational, insecurity in France”

Even within each camp, the strongest attacks sometimes target the partners, while the individualities take precedence over the collective. Not to mention that we spend more time criticizing our opponent than focusing on our own strategy. All errors which, already in football, are unforgivable. But which, when it comes to the political future of the country, could be fatal and cause us to tumble in the ranking of champion nations of democracy. Go France !
