It’s not so obvious: important dilemma for Domenico Tedesco before Belgium – Slovakia – All football

This has been a major topic of discussion for several days. Will Jérémy Doku start the match against Slovakia? It’s not a certainty, despite the Manchester City player’s form.

Jérémy Doku may only be 22 years old, but he is now mentioned alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku when it comes to the strengths of our national team. His unpredictability, speed and dribbling ability are qualities that frighten almost every opponent.

So, why doubt the Manchester City player’s start against Slovakia on Monday? In fact, if Arthur Theate had been a starter or if Timothy Castagne could have occupied the left-back position, it would have been possible. But with the highly probable tenure of Maxim De Cuyper, the situation changes.

Last week, Thomas Meunier said: “As a coach, I would not position De Cuyper as a left back, but as a left midfielder. He is even more offensive than me or Castagne.”

Tedesco has several choices to animate the flanks of Belgium against Slovakia

It is precisely this desire to attack that could bring caution to the ranks of Tedesco. Jérémy Doku will not be the one to resume his position in the event of a loss of the ball, the left flank of the Devils could thus find itself significantly exposed.

It therefore seems quite likely that Yannick Carrasco will start on the left side on Monday against the Slovaks. His experience and ability to accomplish defensive tasks could make the difference.

The alternative is to position Doku on the right, in front of Castagne, present this Saturday at a press conference. “When Leandro is in front of me, I know he will come into the game. So I can plan more. When I play behind Lukebakio or Doku, I stay a little more careful.”

Difficult to predict, but this possibility is very real. Jérémy Doku could also, from time to time, be rested, to keep him fresh throughout the entire tournament.
