2024 is the year of cycling in Creuse! There will of course be the start of the Tour de France on July 10 in Évaux-les-Bains. But before this major popular event, the departmental council has just inaugurated the last section of its Grande Traversée en VTT, one of fifteen circuits of this type existing in France, fully signposted.

650 km of stony paths through the Creuse countryside. A fantastic playground for the champions of the Creuse Oxygen mountain bike club.

You can go for two or four hours of cycling or mountain biking with almost no road! That’s what I’m looking for, what all mountain bikers are looking for, and that’s the best!“, rejoices Alex Riboulet of Creuse Oxygène.

We have parts that are complicated, but it’s for all levels and it’s accessible to everyone, so it’s okay!“, says Emma Delage, from Creuse Oxygène.

A long crossing of the Creuse, departing from La Souterraine, to discover these most beautiful tourist sites, like the yellowish stones, for example. “The challenge is of course to bring tourists, to bring people, to discover our territory. Because the long crossing is still 650 km. It’s also a little bit for specialists. It’s not a small playground where we go as a family. This is really more for people who want to roam, who want to discover quiet places, magnificent places!“, Marie-Christine Bunlon, vice-president of the Creuse department, in charge of sports.

To go around the Creuse, nothing could be simpler. Just follow the red markers placed on the paths. A plus for British tourists encountered on the circuit. “We got lost, but that doesn’t matter. We brought out the map, it amuses us! It’s our first time in Creuse, it’s a magnificent place! We will definitely come back to do some more cycling“, says Denis Parsons, a British tourist, with a smile.
