The Lucy stamp offered in preview at the Vannes République post office

A major philatelic event took place on Friday and Saturday morning in the Vannes République Post office, in partnership with the association La philatélie vannetaise: the release of the Lucy stamp, 50 years after its discovery on November 24, 1974 in Hadar in Ethiopia .

The president of La philatélie vannetaise Hervé Grunberg (center) and some volunteers offered Lucy first day stamped envelopes and cards.

Indeed, one of the discoverers of this skeleton, named Lucy in reference to the Beatles song “Lucy in the sky with diamonds” is Yves Coppens, born in Vannes. The Parisian institute which manages the philaposte philately program has therefore decided that this stamp will be released in preview in two cities, Vannes and Paris before its distribution on Monday in all French post offices. The Vannes République post office therefore sold this stamp at €1.96 international letter, printed in 597,600 copies while Hervé Grunberg, president of the association La philatélie vannetaise and a dozen volunteers, offered philatelic souvenirs: envelopes with stamp and Lucy first day stamp and stamped cards at the price of €3.50. The money collected by the philatelic club will be used to organize various exhibitions.
