Between 150 and 200 activists from the small far-right identity group Des Tours et des lys marched on the evening of Saturday, November 9, in the streets of the historic heart of Tours, reports France Bleu Touraine. A procession secured by around twenty members of the police.
For the second year in a row, these activists gathered to pay homage to Martin of Tours, former bishop and Patron Saint of the city. They marched chanting slogans such as “Touraine identity”, “our pride is our identity” or even “Saint-Martin, come back, Touraine is in danger”indicates the France Bleu Touraine reporter on site.
The gathering ended around 9 p.m. in front of the Saint-Martin basilica, with prayers to Martin of Tours. An anti-fascist counter-rally also took place in the city center of Tours on Saturday evening. These few hundred activists tried to join and disrupt the identity demonstration, but the police managed to prevent the two processions from crossing each other.
