The days pass and the sun still does not come out. In Maine-et-, it has even disappeared since Tuesday October 29, 2024, i.e. for twelve days, according to Météo records from the Beaucouzé station.

In the department, such a long absence constitutes “a historic record” according to Laurent Belsœur, meteorologist based within the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis).

Records fell in several cities

Questioned this week, another meteorologist, Sébastien Decaux, described to us a situation “extremely rare”. “Even in December 2010, marked by phenomena of the same type, we did not find such a sequence”he explained. This long period without sunlight is explained, according to him, by “a gigantic anticyclone” which covers Europe and “places ambient humidity on the ground”.

Since the end of October, Anjou is not the only department desperately seeking a ray of sunshine. In several cities, records have fallen. These intense fogs are expected to persist for several more days.
