A wasteland as large in area as the heart of the bastide, a listed building full of memories for the people of Villeneuve that has been deteriorating for ten years… When Guillaume Lepers arrived at the head of the town hall of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, he had promised to rehabilitate the site, located in the heart of the city. During the last Agglomeration Council, this Thursday, June 13, and after a first meeting of the steering committee responsible for the rehabilitation, the future of Saint-Cyr was revealed.

The hospital where a good number of Villeneuvois were born is due to change its function: “We are going to transfer the campus there, which is already cramped given the proliferation of higher education courses within its walls,” explains the president of Grand Villeneuvois. . This will make it possible to bring together our students on the same site, since the nursing school is already there. We are also going to create an intercommunity media library there, in place of the library, which also no longer has enough space to develop up to its functions. » An amphitheater and a meeting room will be built there. Studio-type accommodation up to T3, intended for students, but also work-study students and health professionals will be built, as will a collective restaurant which currently does not exist on the current campus. A research center to accommodate doctoral students will be created.

Works until 2029

So many profound changes wanted by elected officials to make Saint-Cyr a site dedicated to “youth, training and culture, open to the city”.

A timetable has been put forward: the acquisition of the site should be recorded at the latest before the end of 2025. Negotiations are already underway between the Public Land Establishment of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Health Center and the Regional Health Agency, still owners of the premises. Between 2025 and 2029, different phases of work will be carried out. As a first step and as a matter of urgency, the listed building, which is in the process of deteriorating, will be secured. Once all the rehabilitation work has been completed, the Public Land Establishment will resell Saint-Cyr in pieces, to cover its costs. Only the differential, if it exists, will be the responsibility of the Villeneuvoise community, and repayable in around ten years.
