Meeting in municipal council on Monday June 3, 2024, the elected officials of the municipality of Figeac voted for the creation of several “ tobacco-free spaces » in town, in collaboration with the Lot Cancer League.

Near the Figeac schools

For several years, the League Against Cancer has been developing “tobacco-free spaces” throughout France. There is none in the department. The Lot team therefore contacted the municipalities of Cahors and Figeac, who showed interest.

Monday June 3, the Figeac municipal council approved the agreement concluded with the League Against Cancer. The aim of the convention is to label “non-smoking spaces” in public places specifically dedicated to raising awareness among young audiences.

Locations are defined near the elementary schools (Jacques Chapou, Louis Barrié, Jean Moulin, Paul Bert and Joan of Arc) of kindergarten (Jean Marcenac, Maurice Lacalmontie and Joan of Arc), from the daycare center “Les Petits Loups” of Masbou college and its sports platform.

The mayor, André Mellinger, recalls: “we are in raising awareness and not in verbalization”.
