Merlier is participating in his seventh edition of the Tour of Belgium and his best result so far remains a second place during the fifth and final stage of the 2021 edition and during the first stage of the 2021 edition whose finish was located also in Knokke-Heist.
“I have already participated in the Tour of Belgium many times but this is actually a first time. I am really happy to be able to come out of this stage with victory,” he commented at the microphone of the organization .
Merlier has a string of races since he participated in the Tour of Italy, which ended on May 26, while bagging three stage victories before arriving at the Tour of Belgium.
“I would say that everything is fine physically even if I am a little tired after this Tour of Italy, which is normal I think. I am not in the best shape but with a victory, it is difficult to say. ‘being dissapointed.”
