DAKAR, June 12 (Xinhua) — The Senegalese economy showed itself to be “resilient” last year with a growth rate of 4.6% and is expected to experience an average growth of 7.4% between 2024. and 2026, the World Bank (WB) said on Wednesday.

Driven mainly by activities in the primary sector, in particular agriculture, the Senegalese economy “accelerated” in 2023, despite the “disruptions” noted at the global, regional and national level, indicated the WB in a report made public in Dakar.

The secondary sector, just like that of the primary sector, has shown itself to be “resilient”, thanks in particular to the cement industry, she added, noting however that the tertiary sector is less rosy with a lower growth rate. important in 2023 than in 2022.

For its part, the Senegalese banking sector has demonstrated “a certain resilience”, underlined the World Bank, adding that if the health and life of households have improved, it has been different for education. .

According to the international financial institution, Senegal has not used all the potential and resources at its disposal economically over the last year.
