Nevers and its outskirts invaded by wild boars
We recently informed you of the situation experienced by the inhabitants of Coulanges-lès-Nevers who are experiencing a real invasion of wild boars in the heart of their town and whose mayor was seeking to “recruit” volunteer hunters to come and collect these suids carrying nuisances and sources of potential danger. But as we pointed out to you in our article, this situation is not unique and incursions, even colonizations, into the city centers of urban areas in the Nevers sector by wild boars are increasing, as in Cosne-Cours-sur -Loire, Varennes-Vauzelles, Marzy and even certain districts of Nevers.
Night shootings and administrative raids
Faced with this situation, the Nièvre prefecture has decided on regulatory operations in the territories of these municipalities. Led by Cub Scout lieutenants, these operations will of course include administrative searches but also night shooting and trapping. These operations began a week ago in certain territories and already around ten swine have been collected. They should continue until November 15 according to the prefecture. If the use of night shooting often offends many wild boar hunters and their sense of ethics, the urgency of the situation faced with the dangers and nuisances of this species can justify these drastic measures.
