Face to face to commit suicide: the accused offered $10,000 to his ex-spouse to change his version of the facts

The man accused of killing a nature enthusiast who was returning from camping by causing a confrontation to take his own life reportedly expressed his suicidal motivations in a letter addressed to his parents and begged his ex-partner to modify his declaration to the authorities.

“Now I’m disabled because of you because I wanted to end my life as a mess that you [me faites] live”, would have written Jano Vincent, in a 15-page letter found at his home by his ex-partner, after an attempt to end his life, in the summer of 2020.

Less than a year earlier, the man currently undergoing his month-long jury trial was involved in an accident that would change the course of many lives.

The 37-year-old man is accused of the second degree murder of Robert Campion on October 6, 2019 on Highway 50, near Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.

Around 12:40 p.m., the father of a young girl collided with the camper of the 59-year-old man who was preparing to retire. The impact was so violent that he did not survive.

Conflict

According to the prosecution’s theory, Vincent deliberately caused this accident in order to take his own life, he who was living with consumption, money and family problems. He had been in conflict with his parents for years.

In the months following the tragedy, the thirty-year-old made confessions to relatives, we learned during the trial, before sinking into another attempt to end his life.

This time, however, he left behind this letter addressed to his parents, saying he was incapable of confronting them.

“First of all, I don’t understand why you act the same way with me, I didn’t do anything to you, just seeing me sink makes you happy (sic),” he allegedly wrote.

He mentions in particular a house that they sold to him for too much money and full of hidden defects, the accounting of his company that one of them managed in a dubious manner and of having turned his friends against him.

“I thought after my accident you would have dropped the charges against me but no, these are even worse. Let’s see what planet you live on (sic),” we can read in the note.

Statement

Vincent’s ex-wife, Julie Léveillé, who read this letter with emotion on Tuesday, revealed to the jury that the father of her child had confided to her that he had had dark thoughts, after his parents had withdrawn all the photos of him, inside their house.

Furthermore, a few days after his arrest, Vincent also allegedly called the 43-year-old woman to ask her to change her version of the facts, concerning “everything related to suicide”, according to his understanding.

“He offered me $10,000 if I changed my declaration,” said M.me The day before.

The trial continues.
