The conclusions of a study, commissioned by the Dordogne Department, confirmed that the structure is compatible with 12-ton traffic, but highlight the extreme fragility of the sidewalks and the narrowness of the roadway, which does not allow the crossing of vehicles.

The lights and appropriate signage will ensure that the 12-ton limit is respected and prevent any traffic on the sidewalks when vehicles, particularly heavy goods vehicles, would further weaken the bridge. The traffic lane will be reduced to 3.5 meters.

Built in the 1930s

On the Périgord side, vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes will take the RD 4 and 32 between Gardonne and Le Fleix, via Bourg d'Abren. On the side, the diversion route takes the RD 936E6 and 936 from Sainte-Foy-la-Grande towards Gardonne.

The Dordogne Departmental Council is carrying out a feasibility study to study increasing the capacity of the structure to 19 tonnes. The results of this study will be known in early 2025.

In order to carry out additional investigations, the structure will be closed to all vehicle traffic on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November. The diversion for all vehicles during these two days will be the same as detailed previously.
