The 20-year-old man became known in November 2021 when he was arrested by Quebec police leaving bars on Grande Allée. Mamadou Kalilou Barry, who admitted his participation in a gang rape in March, had among other things publicly denounced the violent arrest of his friend.

After an internal investigation, it was determined that the police officers committed no wrongdoing that evening. Niyokwizera and his family are still suing the Quebec police for the sum of $180,000, they denounce a case of racial profiling.

On Monday, the young man pleaded guilty to several charges: possession of a loaded weapon without authorization, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking as well as breach of promise.

In October 2023, the police saw an individual known to their services driving a car. They know that the latter does not have a driving license. They therefore arrested the young man under the Road Safety Code.

Three men are in the vehicle. Certain elements lead the police to believe that the vehicle is stolen; they therefore ordered the three occupants to get out of the vehicle.

While searching the car, the police discovered a silencer in the glove compartment as well as a shoulder bag with 30 grams of cocaine inside. So they search the three suspects. Pacifique Niyokwizera quickly informs the patrollers that he has a loaded weapon in his belt.

With the search of the phones, investigators can affirm that the three individuals are engaged in cocaine trafficking in the territory of Quebec.

A sentence of 26 months in prison was jointly proposed by the parties. Judge Marc Gosselin accepted it, concerning the young age of the accused and the rapid resolution of the case.

Niyokwizera has been detained since his arrest in October 2023. He therefore has one year left to spend behind bars.
