A few days ago, a new signage removable was put in place by agents of the Dirno (North-West Roads Directorate) at the Penesme roundabouthas Tourlavilledelegated municipality of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche).

Of the plaques were also placed inside this roundabout. For what ? We'll explain it to you.

Eight passages of wind turbine elements

This roundabout connects two portions of the RN13: theNorth-South axis and the Eastern bypass from Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

“The signage and the system were put in place in anticipation of the passage of exceptional transport of the Augizeau company which transports wind turbines from Cherbourg to the center of Manche, to Périers,” replied Serge Gaillard of the dirno communication directioncontacted this Monday November 4, 2024.

Probable temporary closure of the roundabout

“There will be 8 passages this week spread over this Monday evening, this Tuesday and this Wednesday. These passages are planned from 8 p.m. and may require the temporary closure of the eastern bypass of Cherbourg,” he continues.

“We do not intervene in the marking measures, we have not put in place any particular marking, the transport company is in contact with its own escorts and law enforcement », Specifies the representative of Dirno.

For the extension of the Gorges-Gonfreville park

These elements will make it possible to erect two wind turbines of 4.2 MW each which will expand the Gorges-Gonfreville wind farm (located between Saint-Jores and Périers) increasing it from 7 to 9 wind turbines.

“These are new generation wind turbines. With a 115 meter rotor, they are twice as powerful what the models put into servicein 2014 . They measure 25 to 30 m longer”, explained in our columns in June 2024, Julien Duquenne, engineer at Ventis SA, the Belgian company which operates this park.

In order to connect these two future wind turbines to the Enedis electricity network, works were carried out in June 2024 to lay a 20,000 volt electrical line under the roadway, at a depth of one meter, on the road which links Périers to Saint-Germain-sur-Sèves.

150 meters high with blades

The 150 meter high machines (including the height of the blades) will increase the annual production of the park from 35,000 to 53,000 MWh, enough to supply electricity to around 14,500 homes.

This operation is part of the national objective of multiplying by three the renewable energy capacity (EnR).

Ventis has launched a crowdfunding campaign with the Enerfip platform open to citizens of Manche, but also neighboring departments.

The commissioningis planned for the first quarter 2025.
