It was near the site of Navarin, known for its ossuary monument from the First World War, that the discovery of the weapon took place. Firefighters, police and mine clearance services were able to recover the grenade without incident. In 2023, 850 interventions for the mine clearance service took place in . The mine clearance service, which depends on the General Directorate of Civil Security and Crisis Management (DGSCGC), says it had to neutralize and recover nearly 28 tonnes of ammunition.

The Marne, where part of the front of the Great War took place, is an area conducive to the discovery of grenades, shells, mortars, etc. The children discovered a grenade outside the areas checked by specialists, in Sommepy. Remember that it is important not to touch this type of object and to alert law enforcement if found.
