Of the spectacular works ended in Gorron in Mayenne, concerning the church, Tuesday June 4, 2024, around 11 a.m. Many students came as well as residents. Jean-Marc Allain, mayor, introduced this event with a few words addressed to everyone.
“René Coneuf followed the entire project from A to almost Z with Sameer Ruhomuth who was responsible for the content and truthfulness of the project with very heavy specifications.”
Sameer Ruhomuth took the floor to explain the reason for this gathering on Thursday, May 30.
» Today, a crane was to place the very last stones of the spire at a height of 48 meters, including the summit stone, weighing 650 kilos and measuring 80 cm high.
The new cross of the church, weighing 80 kilos and 2.70 m high, was also to be installed, which will be overlooked by the rooster, religious symbol (the rooster represents the night to light or darkness to light).
Unfortunately, this event could not take place. Indeed, following an error, the crane selected for this work turned out to be too small to reach the top of the church.
THE construction site therefore did not take place on Thursday May 30, 2024, but later, on Tuesday June 4 (see photo). It has indeed been hoisted, all the way up, to 48 m.
Made in Laval
There new cross of the bell tower was however blessed on May 30 (photo) by the Father Véron. This pose symbolizes the end of a construction site titanic. The new cross was manufactured by the Art Cam Company, subcontractor of the Grevet Company of Laval.
It is made of treated wrought iron. It is identical to the previous one. Some pieces of the ancient cross were recovered and integrated into the new one, notably the volutes and the four balls in zinc sides.
Anecdote
For the record, in the past craftsmen did not have a color schedule, hence the names of certain colors which may be surprising. For example, one of the colors used is called “cannon rifle” and that of the large door “blood of ox”.
