An operation carried out by agents of the Keur-Ayip Customs Commercial Brigade, located in the Kaolack subdivision, made it possible to seize thirty kilograms of cocaine hidden on board a Hyundai Santa Fe type vehicle registered abroad.

The drugs, hidden in the cavities of the doors and the rear trunk, were discovered using a portable scanner, a non-intrusive control tool recently acquired as part of the Customs Administration Modernization Program (PROMAD). This equipment played a crucial role in foiling the sophisticated method used by traffickers to hide the drugs.

The vehicle, coming from a neighboring country of Senegal, was intercepted by customs officers who, using the scanner, identified the secret caches. The total value of the cocaine seized is estimated at two billion four hundred million CFA francs. The driver and his companion, present in the vehicle, were arrested and legal proceedings are underway.

In the same operation, officers also seized three homemade rifles in Boumbény, near the Gambian border, highlighting the scale and diversity of threats customs faces. This seizure is in addition to a previous interception of 13 kilograms of cocaine by the same brigade, and is part of a series of measures to combat drug trafficking. Indeed, between January and the end of May 2024, the Kaolack subdivision seized a total of 300 kilograms of Indian hemp, including 105 kilograms by the Keur-Ayip Customs Commercial Brigade.

The Customs Administration reaffirms its commitment to combating illicit trafficking in all its forms. It also calls on populations to collaborate with customs units in their targeting and investigation operations, intensified since the start of 2024, to counter criminal networks operating on the main trafficking corridors.
