Why helicopters will fly over Paris “4 to 5 times” per day this week

The Paris police headquarters announced that the national gendarmerie will carry out “four to five helicopter flights” per day, from May 27 to 31, 2024, as part of a mapping operation in preparation for the Olympic Games.

The roar of helicopters will resound in the skies of Paris over the coming days. The police headquarters announced, in a press release published Friday May 24, 2024, that the national gendarmerie will carry out “four to five flights” “per day, from May 27 to 31, between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., “depending on weather conditions”.

“No impact on the areas flown over”

These “low-altitude overflights” will allow “carry out, at a given moment, a reference map with a view to the operational preparation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”explains the police headquarters, which specifies that “these flights, usual and already carried out in other cities, have no impact on the areas flown”.

Takeoff and landing will take place at the Vélizy-Villacoublay air base (Yvelines).
