Gallant meets with Sullivan, threatens Hamas with ‘consequences’ if it doesn’t accept proposed deal

Visiting the United States, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a warning to Hamas, saying the group “will have to bear the consequences” if it does not accept the UN proposal for a hostage agreement and a truce. In a meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan at the White House, Gallant reaffirmed Israel’s support for President Biden’s proposed deal and underscored Israel’s commitment to bringing back all hostages without exception. The minister wanted to clarify that Israel’s conflict is not directed against the populations of Gaza or Lebanon, but against Hamas, Hezbollah and their support, the Iranian regime. “We only fight those who seek to harm us,” he added. Gallant also expressed Jerusalem’s commitment to facilitating the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to Gaza. While hailing the “powerful and enduring” ties between Israel and the United States, and thanking Washington for its “open and discreet” support throughout the war, the minister acknowledged the existence of differences, alluding to the recent public controversy regarding American munitions.

“In any family – and we consider the American people our family – disagreements can arise. But like all families, we discuss our differences internally and stick together,” he said.
