It’s a way of prolonging total immersion in the animal world. For many months, cranes, excavators and other construction equipment had taken possession of agricultural landlocated in the immediate vicinity of the famous Cat park from Lumigny-Nesles-Ormeaux (Seine-et-Marne). The objective was not to create a new park, as was the case in 2016 with the opening of Land of monkeys. The goal was to build a hotel with “an incredible view of an entire kingdom”, as one of its designers put it, Hugo Garden.

Four hectares for lions

The young man of just 22 years old, who became director of the Lumigny Safari Reserve (the new name of the parks) in 2022, realized the dream of his predecessor, a certain Patrick Jardin, who is none other than his uncle. “Five years ago, I started dreaming. I wanted to offer park visitors the opportunity to extend the experience with the creation of a hotel. I dreamed of it, Hugo did it,” summed up the man who has administered the park since its opening to the public in 2006 at the inauguration of the site.

And in the Jardin family, we quickly move from dream to reality. After a site completed in record time by the architect’s teams Laurent Lepyand amazing hotel was born a stone’s throw from the entrance to the parks. The statues placed at the entrance set the scene. Welcome to the “ Kingdom of Lions “. Once inside, past the reception, you arrive on a terrace giving a bird’s eye view of a 4-hectare enclosure in which around ten lions live. These end up transporting you to the heart of the savannah. “It allows us to travel without leaving Seine-et-Marne,” smiles Hugo Jardin.

The Kingdom of Lions thus offers fifty rooms distributed in two wings. In total, the structure has 36 family rooms that can accommodate up to five people, ten “premium” rooms for two people and finally four PMR rooms. Although different in size, all the rooms have one thing in common: they overlook the lion enclosure, thanks to an imposing bay window. “Lions remain very active at night. It’s an opportunity to discover them from another angle,” confides the young director. Still in the rooms, every detail, from the furniture to the works of art, “invites you to discover the richness of Africa while enjoying modern comfort”, continues Hugo Jardin, who also designed the rooms himself. headboards.

Reach a new audience

With this new hotel which cost modest sum of 10 million eurosthe Lumigny Safari Reserve hopes to offer a unique experience, but also to attract a new audience. Because with a hotel of this standing just a few hectometers from the parks, there is no need to rush through the paths. “Some people told us that they sometimes didn’t have enough time to see all the animals and that they had to take the road to go home. The hotel presents itself as a solution for them,” explains those around the director.

“It will also allow people to take more time to discover our future new residents », says Hugo Jardin. Because the creation of the lion enclosure opposite the hotel freed up space inside the main park. “We will be able to redevelop the old lion enclosure to create new ones. If all goes well, the new arrivals will be in the park in the spring », he adds, keeping the identity of these new residents a mystery. In addition to the hotel, here is one more reason to (re)discover this remarkable site, which promotes animal welfare on a daily basis.

Thoughts around creating a gateway

With this new hotel, the Lumigny Safari Reserve adds a new segment to its range, in addition to the Parc des félins and Terre de monkeys. Although the three sites are very close to each other, a question of mobility comes up more and more frequently: “how to cross the RD 201 in complete safety?”.
The axis that runs from Rozay-en-Brie to the parks in fact cuts the cells in two, with the Parc des félins on one side and the Land of Monkeys and the Kingdom of Lions hotel on the other. The idea would be to create a footbridge in the coming years allowing the public to move around in complete safety. “Discussions will continue with the Department, the Region and local authorities to find the solution,” guarantees Hugo Jardin, director of the Lumigny Safari Reserve.
